Fairytale ending for New Farm State School

Students at New Farm State School danced and sang their praises for their new Building the Education Revolution (BER) funded multi purpose hall, in a colourful, creative official opening ceremony on November 8.

Staff, students and local community members came together to celebrate their new multi million dollar facility acknowledging the dedicated builders, contractors and departmental project coordinators.

School principal Virginia O'Neill said the school have had a dream of developing an activity and performance hub for students and community members for many years.

She said that dream had finally become a reality, due to the Australian Government's $16.2 billion BER program.

"Can you believe it? Yes it is real, yes it is here," she said. "I believe this is an absolute gift to the New Farm community. "New Farm has excelled itself, our hall has been a team effort. "The parents and community at New Farm said we have a dream and the Australian Government said yes we can."

During the official opening ceremony the "Tibetan Dance" was performed by the student Mandarin dancers as well as the Year 1 rap and junior choir performance.

Principal O'Neill said the BER funded hall was proof that dreams do come true.

She said their opening ceremony was designed to showcase the array of talent within the New Farm school community.

The Australian Government provided $2,000,001 in funding to New Farm State School under the Primary Schools for the 21st Century (P21) for the multi purpose hall. An additional $125,001 was provided under the national School pride (NSP) element for minor refurbishments at the school.
