Seville Road State School Principal Cheryl Rowe said student morale had dramatically improved since the opening of their multi-million-dollar Building the Education Revolution (BER) funded resource centre and classroom upgrades.
The Australian Government provided $2,000,000 in funding to Seville Road State School under Primary Schools for the 21st Century (P21) for the classroom and library. An additional $125,001 was provided under the National School Pride (NSP) element for minor refurbishments at the school.
Principal Rowe said the facilities had exceeded the schools expectations, with students having a greater sense of pride in their school community "Value for money was excellent and we had a lot of input into the projects," she said.
"We have received facilities that we would never have gained without the BER and the impact on our school is phenomenal. "Staff and students have teaching and learning spaces which would compete with our more "affluent" neighbours and in many instances would surpass them.
"These spaces are flexible and designed for 21st century learning." Principal Rowe said there had been a huge reduction in behaviour referrals with students keen to learn, play together and promote the school to the community.
"We have had steady improvement in student outcomes as the teachers and students teach and learn in wonderful classroom spaces," she said. "Teachers are keen to review their practices to adapt to the classroom spaces they now have."
