What is the data conferencing service?

Education Queensland has installed data conferencing facilities that permit Education Queensland staff and students to communicate via the internet in real time using Microsoft NetMeeting which has:

  • a shared whiteboard;
  • a file transfer window;
  • a chat window;
  • an application-sharing program that allows participants to share the same computer screen (i.e. look at and modify the same file online in real time).

Data conferencing works well in conjunction with a voice conference (using a telephone), providing both visual and audio prompts for participants during a session.

Who can join?

Anyone can join a data conference if they have been invited by a convenor and know the lesson password. Currently, this service is available through the Learning Place for participants who are connected to the internet at home or on either the Curriculum or Administration network at school. However, if you wish to host or convene conferences you must complete the online Blackboard Data conferencing course to gain approval to schedule conferences.  (see How do I convene a data conference).
