Discussion lists

A discussion list is a collection of email addresses of people interested in a topic or idea. It is a means of sharing information with a large group of people at once. Discussion lists can be set up to discuss new ideas, share tips and techniques or provide a form of support and assistance.

A list owner manages a discussion list. This person is responsible for the management of the list. This includes:

  • Topic of the list
  • General rules
  • Basic administration

The list owner often has a community building role, encouraging conversations, supporting new members and keeping harmony within the list.
