What is Voicethread?

Voicethread is an online multi-media album that helps students to create their own digital stories. Voicethread inspires collaboration and expression with four innovative ways to provide commentary through voice, text, audio and video.  You can share Voicethread with friends, students and colleagues and have control over whether they may view, edit or comment on your story.

The pilot aims to:

  • Assess the educational value of Voicethread and its impact on learning.
  • Develop a range of options for EQ schools to register and use Voicethread.
  • Support a community of learners who help each other to explore, develop and assess new technologies.

Security

Voicethread is a place where educators and students can safely create and collaborate on digital media. The Learning Place has secured an area in Voicethread for EQ users.  Pilot participants will only be interacting with other EQ users or their authorised delegates.  Participating teachers in the pilot will receive logins for their use and be responsible for content created from these logins.  Voicethread is built upon a foundation of accountability; all users are known users, responsible for their content and behaviour.

File formats supported

Voicethread supports many standard file and image formats including PDF, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Flash, jpeg, gif, avi, mov and wmv.

Embedding

Voicethread allows you to easily embed your stories into Virtual Classrooms and other websites. Simply copy and paste the embed code to your online learning area, enriching it with digital content, interactivity and collaborative tools.
