Using HTML editors

HTML editors are software that help create webpages by:

  • Inserting the code for you.
  • Allowing you to type in the code.
  • Creating your webpage similarly to how you would create a document in a word processor – this is a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editor.
Unless you know HTML it is best to use a WYSIWYG HTML editor.

WYSIWYG editors

'What You See Is What You Get' HTML editors are very easy to use. Most novices start out with a WYSIWYG editor because you can get a new webpage up quickly. The biggest advantage that these editors have is that you don't need to know HTML to put up a webpage.

Blackboard® note:
Use an HTML editor to develop the HTML code, then copy and paste the HTML into Blackboard. This is a quick and efficient way to display your content aesthetically within Blackboard.

The two that would be most familiar to you are:

Microsoft® Frontpage®
Most school environments have access to this HTML editor. If you are familiar with Word then this will be easy to use.

Whether you enjoy the control of hand-coding HTML or prefer to work in a visual editing environment, Dreamweaver makes it easy to get started and provides you with helpful tools to enhance your web design experience.
