P-M-I of online learning

Plus

  • Where - the place you learn is up to you: home, work, a friend's place
  • When - choose the time you learn to suit your family and work commitments
  • What - you choose the type of course that suits your needs.
  • Reflection - you have time to reflect and consider your answers, even in an online synchronous environment

Minus

  • Computer - you have to have regular access to an Internet computer. This may be a consideration if you have to buy one or upgrade a existing computer.
  • Your learning style - if you prefer face-to-face learning environments, online learning may not be your preferred mode of learning.
  • Your study skills - you have to be a self-motivated learner.
  • Skill level - your skill in using a computer could impede your progress.

Interesting

  • Skill level - if a beginning computer user, your skill level could improve as you use the computer and Internet.
  • Professional dialogue - you will discuss ideas with people you would normally have never met.
  • Communication - you will use synchronous and asynchronous communication tools that many of your students take for granted.
