Words, music and images will come together at the 2008 Online Literature Festival as a group of renowned Australian authors, illustrators and songwriters give Queensland students a taste of our literary culture.

Coordinated by the Learning Place, the festival will run over three weeks from 1 - 19 September.

Students from Prep to Year 12 will have the opportunity to interact with special online guests through a variety of web tools including text-based chat and collaborative project spaces.

For the first time this year students will also be given access to media streaming of author presentations as part of the festival. Author and online guest Jack Heath said the festival gave students the opportunity to engage with their favourite authors, illustrators and songwriters through a fun and exciting medium.

"Students and young people can really connect with online events because the computer is something they understand and are comfortable with," he said. "It's part of the culture they are creating, rather than the one that comes ready-made."

Other confirmed online guests this year include authors Libby Gleeson, Paul Collins, Jackie French, Anita Heiss, Michael Pryor and Maureen McCarthy and author and illustrator Leigh Hobbs.
