Queensland students take culture to the classroom

Queensland students are bringing the great works of Pablo Picasso to their classroom through an online event which is being run through the Learning Place until 19 September. Coinciding with the Picasso & his collection exhibition on at the Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA), Picasso 2008 involves a series of art challenges for students where winning entrants receive prizes and awards.

Smart Classrooms Mentor for the South Coast Region Paula Gibson-Draper says the art challenges enable students to create a variety of artworks in the classroom that relate to the themes in the exhibition.

“It’s up to the teacher which art challenges they may choose and how they create them within their classroom,” she says. “Students can upload their creations for others to view and a chance to win art prizes.”

The project has additional activities for teachers to choose from, including a poll and discussion forums, and links to the Education Resources from the QAG-GOMA website. In term three, students will also have the opportunity to chat online with art and gallery experts. Art challenge entries are due on 12 September.
