Ratings

A rating as to suitability for the Queensland P - 12 curriculum is applied as part of the overall review process. The rating should not be used as a sole selection tool. We strongly suggest that schools read the full review prior to purchasing a resource and where possible preview the item. Purchase decisions relating to resources for use in a classroom or inclusion in library collection are a school responsibility.

Highly Recommended
Used for resources of outstanding literary or cinematic excellence. If resources are non-fiction, the content should be accurate and informative and the resource should have precise curriculum application.

Recommended
Used for quality material, with accurate and informative content and obvious curriculum application if non-fiction.

Read before use with students
Used for resources of literary or cinematic merit which may deal with sensitive issues, issues requiring maturity of the reader, or use confrontational language that is in context with the characters or scenarios. Such resources will cater for older, mature readers.

Average
Used for resources that are good, average library stock or material that fills areas of need where resources are not easily available.

Marginal
Used for material that is of limited application to schools or the school curriculum or is highly specialised. It could also apply to material that could be considered racially offensive and is of little literary merit. Materials whose expense is out of proportion in terms of the value of the resource to the curriculum fall into this category also.

Not Recommended
Used for material that is obscene, racist, likely to promote undesirable attitudes, inaccurate or gratuitously confrontational in language (and of little literary merit).
