Schools Catalogue Information Service (SCIS)
SCIS provides high quality, consistent cataloguing data for Australian school libraries through a national data base of over one million catalogue records for educational resources that:
- support the school curriculum
- include fiction, non-fiction and teacher reference
- cover all levels and content areas of the school curriculum
- cover all formats including books, videos, computer software and websites
- is accessed through SCISWeb, a web-based interface.
For more information visit the SCIS (Schools Catalogue Information Service) website.
Access to SCIS for Queensland schools
Access to SCIS is by subscription. The Department of Education and Training (DET) provides a bulk service subscription for all Education Queensland schools, which allows them to freely access SCISWeb and download catalogue records.
Non-government schools should contact Education Services Australia, to enquire about a subscription and any applicable discounts available to them. ESA may be contacted on 1800 337 405 or by email.
Schools requiring help with login problems, or other technical assistance, should contact ESA direct on 1800 337 405.
Cataloguing of records not found on SCIS
Where a matching record for a resource cannot be found on SCIS, schools are encouraged to send the resource in to SCIS for cataloguing. This cataloguing service is free for all schools, government or non-government.
New SCIS cataloguing arrangements
The SCIS cataloguing service for Queensland schools was formerly an in-house service provided by the Department of Education and Training. Under a new arrangement, cataloguing for Queensland schools is carried out by Mary Gough, who now works for Education Services Australia as an independent cataloguing contractor. You can contact Mary by email to arrange to send in resources for cataloguing. SCIS cataloguing inquiries can also be directed to Education Services Australia by email.
The Department of Education and Training (DET) Library Services, Coorparoo, will continue to be a collection point for schools sending in resources by post or courier or delivering boxes in person.
Education Queensland schools should please note that the free courier service no longer operates, neither does the reply paid postage service. All schools now need to either deliver items in person, or pay the cost of posting items for cataloguing, or sending them in by courier, and also the cost of having them returned to the school.
Contact Library Services if you require further assistance or information.
