• Academic writing: a language based approach [CD ROM] Gonichi Language Services.
  An interactive CD-ROM developed to teach students from non-English speaking backgrounds about writing at university level in Australia. The first section focuses on the types of writing at university. It features authentic models from a range of disciplines and genres. The second section looks at paragraphs and their structure. The third section discusses features of academic language such as the difference between spoken and written language and the use of nominalisation in academic English.

  Helps students with the speaking and listening competencies of CSWE II through five main outcomes relating to workplace situations. Each outcome features a spoken or written text form which students complete a variety of exercises.

  Activities based around practical, concrete real-life situations with content suitable for adult learners. Written for the CGEA (Certificate in General Education for Adults) an accredited adult literacy and numeracy course in Victoria. All instructions are both spoken and written. Elementary to Intermediate.
• Click into English [CD ROM] AMES, Vic & Clarity.
  An interactive and guided program focused on the practice of reading, writing, listening and study skills. Each unit contains model texts and practice exercises culminating in practice assessment tasks. A wide range of text types and skills is covered including report writing, essay writing, letters and notes, preparing for exam questions, and reading and listening comprehension. Intermediate to Advanced.
• Connected speech [CD ROM] Protea.
  An interactive multimedia pronunciation program that teaches a wide range of pronunciation skills in context. Contains 27 video clips with a range of accent models and speaking styles. There are six main modules: Pause groups; Pitch groups; Sentence stress; Linking; Syllables and Word stress; and the International Phonetic Alphabet. The TESOL Library holds both the Australian English version and the North American English version.
• English for everyone [CD ROM] NCELTR.
  Contains over 400 instructional screens, which provide guidance for secondary, tertiary and adult students in using English more effectively in their studies. This is not an interactive CD, more like a 'how-to' text, however the language, descriptions and examples are clear and well presented.
• English on CD [CD ROM] Langsoft.
  Students learn English while learning about Australia, topics include Sydney Harbour, Kosciusko, Great Barrier Reef, Uluru, Kakadu, Anzac Day, Melbourne Cup etc. Each topic area contains five exercises including listening, sequencing, gap filling, grammar and vocabulary activities. Intermediate.
• Hazel Davidson, Dorothy Court English spelling [CD ROM], vol. 1, .
  A phonics-based approach for low-level learners by local Brisbane teachers. This first volume covers the sounds of the alphabet and the short vowels. It provides wall charts, alphabet sheets, songs, exercises and a teachers summary of vocabulary, grammar and spelling rules.
• The Great Barrier Reef [CD ROM], Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority & QED Educational Services.
  This CD, produced by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, provides a stunning introduction to the reef and its creatures and is accompanied by a workbook for primary, secondary and adult ESL learners. The activities in the workbook include cloze exercises, scrambled sentences, and dictionary exercises.
• The IELTS tutor [CD ROM] 2nd ed, Cross-Link.
  This package presents students with help to achieve their desired IELTS score. The CD is not interactive, it contains a video. The accompanying booklet contains worksheets, practice materials and examples of the types of questions asked in IELTS and comprehension questions to accompany the content of the video/CD-ROM.

  A dictionary of over 800 words. A photo or graphic for each word is included; Australian pronunciation; spoken and written context sentences and spelling activities for singular and plural word forms. Elementary-Intermediate.

  Addresses topical issues (e.g. Discrimination, Smoking, Euthanasia) at 4 different levels. Each level of each issue is introduced through a video of a person presenting an opinion, an anecdote or factual information. Activities include comprehension, spelling, dictation, vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, writing skills. Every activity (over 600 altogether) can be printed as a worksheet. Highly recommended.   12 sequenced interactive activities providing instruction and practise in phonic blends. Explores all forms of digraphs, diphthongs, silent letters and suffixes.
