Students officially enrolled in undergraduate or postgraduate programs have the opportunity to diversify their academic and cultural experience by participating in an exchange program.
Students are required to enrol in a full semester's workload for a single semester of study, with both the host and home university's approval. It is intended that credit will be transferred from the host institution to the home institution, and vice-versa, so that students will still complete their degree in minimum time. Universities have differing eligibility requirements, which relate to the duration of study that has been completed prior to the exchange as well as the student's Grade Point Average (GPA).
All nine universities in Queensland have individual exchange agreements with other universities and institutions overseas. For information on the exchange opportunities available through your university, contact the university's study abroad officer/exchange coordinator.
Most universities have programs that offer modest financial assistance to Australian or Permanent Resident students who wish to broaden their educational experience through international study as part of their degree. Your institution's international or exchange unit periodically advertises specific scholarship opportunities and bursaries. On the advice of your university's international unit, inquiries may be made directly to partner institutions or from within your faculty.
The key to successfully pursuing overseas study opportunities is comprehensive research. When choosing a study destination it is important to consider:
