Literacy and numeracy coaches

A priority within the Literacy and Numeracy National Partnership is to engage and train literacy and numeracy coaches. Coaches work with school teams, supporting and building teachers' capacity and embedding professional learning teams in schools.

Literacy and numeracy coaches support quality teaching across the early and middle phases of learning. As part of school leadership teams, coaches are also guiding classroom teachers in:

• delivering quality literacy/numeracy teaching
  
  
• contributing to whole-school improvement.

Professional development for newly appointed coaches began with a three-day conference in October 2009. Forums and professional development for the coaches will continue in 2010.
