Involvement of parent organisations in the Next Step survey

If your child or family member completed Year 12 last year

The Next Step survey seeks data from every student who completed Year 12 and was awarded a Senior Statement in the previous year in Queensland. Former students can expect to be contacted by phone or mail between March and May, asking them to participate in the survey. This includes:

The survey does not include students who leave school prior to completing Year 12 or home schoolers.

If your child or family member is still at school

The Next Step survey will be held each year, contacting all Queensland students who completed Year 12 in the previous year.

Current students can expect to be surveyed in the year following their completion of Year 12. Their schools will benefit from the summary information provided to them in the reports from this yearâ€'s survey.

Schools will not receive individual student details, only summary information.

If you are interested in school planning

The Next Step survey collects information on the post-school destinations of Year 12 students in Queensland in order to assist:

Individual Next Step school reports and a one-page summary report will be emailed to all secondary schools that have five or more responses in the Next Step survey.

Involvement of parent organisations in the survey

In April 2004, the Queensland Government issued the Schools Reporting Consultation Paper Adobe PDF document proposing the annual publication of post-school destinations of Queensland Year 12 students to complement the publication of Year 12 results by school.

The feedback from the consultation showed broad support for a destination survey of students after finishing Year 12. The Schools Reporting Steering Committee, which included representatives of the parent associations from each school sector, strongly endorsed the proposal to conduct a destination survey of the post-Year 12 cohort to assist school and system planning.
