The Queensland Office of Higher Education is part of the State Department of Education, Training and the Arts and provides advice to the State government on all aspects of higher education policy, planning, regulation, financing and performance.
The Office assists the Minister for Education and Training to fulfil the responsibilities for higher education in Queensland. The Office administers funds allocated to it by the State government for higher education and liaises with a range of bodies in performing its roles including universities, other higher education providers, the Commonwealth government, and other State and Commonwealth agencies. On behalf of the Minister for Education and Training, the Office also oversees accreditation arrangements relating to the growing number of non-university providers wishing to offer higher education awards, and for the operations of overseas institutions in the State.
The Office monitors the impact of Commonwealth funding and policy
, and trends generally in the higher education environment. It establishes broad priorities for higher education provision in Queensland in light of the State's responsibilities in regional community planning and infrastructure delivery, economic development (e.g. innovation, emerging industries), secondary schooling and tertiary entrance, and vocational and workforce training.
