OneSchool Release Two

Release Two is the second deliverable from OneSchool and builds on the curriculum, teaching and learning functionality already provided in Release One. It is being built in-house by members of the Department's OneSchool development team.

It supports the processes for curriculum planning and implementation by providing functionality to develop work programs, unit plans and learning plans. These plans form the basis of the teaching-learning cycle of planning, teaching, assessment and reporting of curriculum.

Accessibility to core Education Queensland and Queensland Studies Authority curriculum documents are possible from directly within the OneSchool application. Teachers are able to access the QCAR Essential Learnings, the Standards, and syllabus documents. Also accessible are various teaching and learning frameworks so teachers can identify the curriculum intent and build relevant and customised curriculum plans for their students.

Release Two extends the scope of the Shared Student Record established in Release One by enabling schools to access and interpret a range of additional data to provide a rich picture of a student's strengths and needs. Achievement data set sources include: National Assessment Program (NAPLAN) records (benchmarks, assessment test data), diagnostic/standardised assessment data, progress maps (ESL Bandscales, Early Learning Record) and unit assessment data. Data may be viewed at an individual student, class or cohort level.

Also in Release Two the data recorded in the student record in OneSchool will become available to a new school on transfer or enrolment of a student. The shared student record will provide schools with an enhanced ability to ensure continuity of student learning.

The Specific Educational Requirements (SER) module provides capacity to view and individualise Support Provisions, Referrals and associated Records of Contact, Optional Reporting choices and Attachments. The Individual Student Plan (ISP) report is available from this section. Support Provisions identify goals, strategies and resources that specifically cater for the needs of individuals or groups of students. This information can be made available to all relevant teachers in the context of their curriculum planning

The SET Planning module provides students with the ability to manage their Senior Education and Training plans online. This includes the ability to identify their intended learning, goals, strengths, possible careers and courses, subject selection and strategies to assist in the achievement of these.

Corporate access to student profile and aggregate data, including NAPLAN, has been enabled with this release. Assistant Director-Generals and Regional Executive Directors assign and approve the level of access a corporate staff member has to data recorded in the OneSchool application. The security access level granted to an appropriate corporate staff member restricts their access to only the information they need to perform their duties in the position they hold or as decided and approved by their Assistant Director-General or Regional Executive Director.

Members of the OneSchool Guiding Coalition were approached to provide feedback and comments around the proposed functionality in Release Two to ensure it met the needs of schools. Corporate stakeholders also participated in discussions to inform functionality and direction of the release.

OneSchool Guiding Coalition members were offered the opportunity to participate in the pilot of Release Two which occurred during Terms 2 and 3, 2009. More than 100 members accepted the invitation.

The functionality in Release Two was made available to all Queensland state schools in October 2009.

This release is idiosyncratic and the nature of its implementation is neither mandatory nor lock step. Therefore it is expected a school principal will decide the appropriate implementation strategy for their school. It is likely complete implementation of the functionality will take 18 months to three years. It is suggested a plan for this implementation should be developed at each individual school and specific staff members or departments are selected to begin using functionality.

Because of the lengthy implementation period, a different strategy is being applied for Release Two. Guiding Coalition members and regional leaders will drive the implementation of OneSchool across clusters, districts and regions. Regional leaders and Guiding Coalition members have already begun planning their regional implementation strategy and scheduling workshops and presentations in which OneSchool team members will participate.

Funding will be provided by OneSchool to release staff to support the implementation process. The principal can decide how this funding is to be used to release staff members for configuration, training, and other implementation activities.

Webinar opportunities will be provided for users by OneSchool. Information about webinars will be advertised within the application. These training and information sessions will be task specific and targeted to particular user groups.

Help and implementation support materials and documents have been developed for Release Two functionality and are available within the OneSchool application.
