Summer Schools are specifically designed for Years 5, 6 and 7 students who have been identified through NAPLAN (National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy) as requiring additional help in the areas of literacy and numeracy. Students attending Summer Schools will be given the opportunity to improve their literacy and numeracy skills in a unique learning environment.
Each Summer Schools class is taught by a registered teacher.
A coordinator will also be appointed to each Summer Schools site to ensure things run smoothly. Your coordinator will be the first point of contact prior to and while Summer Schools are operating.
Summer Schools do not replace the existing support that your child is receiving at their school. Rather, this is an opportunity for your child to receive additional assistance in an enjoyable learning environment.

Students encounter measurement in a range of daily situations. To be confident when working with units of measurement, students need to be able to:
Talk about occasions when you are using measurement in daily jobs and real-life situations. There are many opportunities that present themselves that you can use to support your child. These may include:
When painting the interior of a home e.g. the paint to be bought is directly related to the surface area of the walls.
Writing persuasively requires students to understand how language devices can be used to convince a reader of their point of view. Persuasion occurs at many levels, informally we may seek to persuade or influence a friend, more formally we may seek to persuade an unfamiliar or important person to respond to an issue.
At the January 2012 Summer Schools your child will learn to:
"My child was very reluctant to attend Summer Schools initially, but after the first day found the learning environment pleasant and fun - he says he learned a lot in the five days he attended. This program is a winner!!"
"My son is coming home from Summer School able to do maths that he hadn't been able to do before. I was really pleased to see his confidence and capabilities grow."
"My child had sad tears in his eyes when I first broke the news of Summer Schools to him - his attitude COMPLETELY changed after the first day. He says, "Summer Schools is fun and awesome". He has really enjoyed himself and says that he has really learned a lot of good tips - especially for maths."
"I don't know what you are doing but my son jumps out of bed each morning, eager to get there."
"The small group work enables children to learn from each other. The teachers, coordinators and teacher aides are fantastic!"
"Our child is coming home happy that she is learning."
"We can see that she has progressed."
"Our son's confidence has improved and so too has his attitude to school. It hasn't been too disruptive to the holidays. We would support our son attending a Summer Schools program in the future."
"My son absolutely did not want to go to Summer School on Monday. He cried the night before and told me that I didn't care that he had a stomach ache and didn't want to get out of bed. After the first four days of summer School I told him that he could go fishing with his father tomorrow instead of going to Summer School - he loves fishing- but he said he didn't want to go fishing, he would rather go to Summer School!"
"My daughter has enjoyed all aspects of Summer Schools. For a child who doesn't like to go to school, it was great to see her so excited and being prepared early to attend this wonderful learning experience. My thanks to all the teachers that provide this great catch-up experience for kids all over the state."
"My daughter came home from Summer School and said that they had learned all about chance and probability and then proceeded to explain it all to me in great detail."
"This is a great program, please keep it going."
"I have never seen my daughter so excited about doing school work. All she does is talk about what she has learned each day. Thank you for this opportunity."
"From the improvements in my child, I think Summer Schools is pretty spot on!"
"I have been to two Summer Schools and I love them. Do they have Summer Schools in high school?"
"I like being able to learn things I didn't know."
A brother and sister told their Summer School teacher that they're now reading books at home thanks to Summer School.
"the best thing about Summer Schools is:
"I had a really nice teacher. I have learned how to make 3D shapes and I like how she says it always takes a little bit of time to know everyone. She has helped me a lot this week and I said to mum that Miss Chard is the nicest teacher I have ever had."
"I like Summer Schools because of all of the learning I got. I feel much better now doing maths."
"The Summer Schools teachers were nice and it was fun learning."
"It was exciting learning different stuff."
