Developing Perfomance Framework book

Staff soon will have the tools and resources to boost their skills, career options and job satisfaction.

The Developing Performance Framework is being rolled out throughout Education Queensland after a successful trial in more than 50 schools and work units across the state.

Human Resources Assistant Director-General Craig Allen said the framework, with its practical and collaborative tools, would help staff and managers negotiate key workplace responsibilities, discuss career aspirations and goals, agree on future professional development and give formal feedback.

'The intent of the framework is to promote and maintain a culture in which all employees have discussed with their manager their performance and its development,' Mr Allen said.

'The process will help staff to develop their skills, improve career options and increase job satisfaction.

'It will also outline to staff what is expected of them in their role, how their work contributes to the team, school or work unit and the department; and the types of professional development and support that is available.'

Marsden State High School, southwest of Brisbane, was one of the schools that trialled the framework. Deputy principal Bindi Winterbourn said it had a positive impact on the school's culture.

'I think the framework can have a motivating effect on people,' Ms Winterbourn said. 'Many of my colleagues feel re-energised after going through the process.'

The framework was developed in partnership with the Queensland Teachers Union; Queensland Public Sector Union; Liquor, Hospitality and Miscellaneous Workers Union; principals' associations; and the Queensland Parents' and Citizens' Association.
