Conference to inspire student leaders
20 July 2009
Next year young community leaders who contribute to a better world will be recognised at the yLead Australian Student Leadership Conference in Brisbane.
yLead general manager Emma Murtagh said the addition of the 2010 yLead Community Leaders Award would be a 'call to action' for school leaders.
'There is no doubt a great service ethic exists in many schools and community projects are already integral to their processes,' Ms Murtagh said.
'This award shines a light on that and aims to encourage school leaders to maintain their focus throughout the year by leading a project that will make a difference to their school or community.
'In addition to the skills and experiences the students are given at the conference, by entering in the award students are inspired to leave a legacy in their final year of school.'
Each year yLead, previously known as the Australian Youth Development Association, hosts the conference for student leaders in their final school year and community group youth leaders.
This year the conference is at Emmanuel College, University of Queensland, in two streams on January 21-22 and 23-24.
