Whittle away your next excursion

20 July 2009

For an excursion with a difference, schools are invited to visit the revamped Woodworks Timber and Forestry Museum in Gympie and gain an insight into the forestry and timber industry.

Visitors to the museum can discover how Queensland pioneers worked the timber and how the industry evolved over the intervening decades up to the 1950s.

The museum has a number of displays and demonstrations, including the largest collection of pioneering hand tools, blacksmith shop, a 619-year-old kauri pine tree section and a replica of an 1860s steam-driven bush sawmill.

Education kits and worksheets are also available.
