Drive for students to enter road safety awards
High school students are being encouraged to draw on their artistic talents to help reduce the number of road deaths in Queensland.
Now in its 10th year, the Queensland Road Safety Awards is a joint initiative of the RACQ and Queensland University of Technology's Centre for Accident Research and Road Safety-Queensland (CARRS-Q).
RACQ spokesman Gary Fites said young drivers aged between 17 and 24 were 2.5 times more likely to die in crashes than drivers in any other age group.
‘With this in mind, we have introduced a new awards category to encourage high school students to become involved in road safety by designing visual messages that will get through to young road users,' Mr Fites said.
Awards will be presented in two categories: Years 8 to 10 students and Years 11 to 12. Students can enter individually or in teams.
Entries close August 14. Nominations must be submitted online at the CARRS-Q website
