Queensland schools are invited to join communities around the world to mark International Women's Day (IWD), celebrated each year on March 8.
Queensland's IWD 2009 theme is Our Women - Our State.
The theme recognises women, their achievements, and the events, places and stories of significance to women that have helped make Queensland the state it is today.
It ties in with Queensland's Q150
celebrations, acknowledging women's contributions to shaping Queensland since 1859.
The Department of Education, Training and the Arts will celebrate IWD 2009 with its annual Herstories event.
Held since 2003, Herstories is an opportunity for staff to network, listen to, and reflect on, the stories of inspiring women.
This year's guest speakers are Arts Queensland Deputy Director-General Leigh Tabrett and Fitzroy-Central West regional community education counsellor Sophie Yasso.
Department staff around the state can participate in the Herstories event by accessing a podcast on the website in the week after the event.
