Call for disability awards nominations

May 2009

The Federal Government is encouraging people to nominate students and teachers for a National Disability Award.

There are five awards, three of which would be relevant for students and teachers.

The Disability Rights Young Leader Award is open to people with a disability aged from 12 to 25 who have raised awareness and shown outstanding leadership in improving the lives of people with a disability.

The Social Inclusion Award will be given to a person who has worked towards a more inclusive environment by creating opportunities for people with a disability to take part in areas such as sport, the arts, education and the wider community.

The Minister's Lifelong Achievement Award is open to people over 25 with or without a disability who have made an extraordinary personal commitment to the lives of people with a disability.

Nominations close on May 22 and an awards ceremony will be held in Canberra in November.
