Competition for students of Mandarin
May 2009
Students of Mandarin, the modern standard language of the People's Republic of China, are encouraged to enter the 2009 Shanghai Cup Chinese (Mandarin) Language Speaking Competition.
On June 26 at the State Library of Queensland students will be asked to effectively express their ideas in Chinese, display their language skills and, as a result, gain confidence in using the language.
The contest is open to all state and non-state students throughout Queensland.
Prizes and an individual trophy will be awarded to the first, second and third place winners in each of the four divisions. First prize winners will receive return airfares to Shanghai and accommodation.
The competition is part of the 20th anniversary celebrations of Queensland and Shanghai's Sister State relationship.
Applications close on May 22. For more information email the Department of Education and Training's International Services Manager Roger White.
