Extra support for school leavers with a disability
26 November 2009
School leavers with a disability will benefit from increased job opportunities, care and support thanks to a $4 million funding boost from the State Government.
The latest round of the Transition from School program will support 290 school leavers to access further education and work this financial year, up from 260 last year.
Disability Services Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk said the funding would mean even more young Queenslanders could access the care and support they needed to build productive and rewarding lives after school.
'The new program will help young people to get a job,' Ms Palaszczuk said.
'They'll learn new skills in information technology, communications and business.'
Ms Palaszczuk said the Government's existing Post School Services program would continue to give school leavers important life and social skills, opening up opportunities for social interaction.
'From Cape York to Coolangatta and inland through Central Queensland to the Darling Downs, young people and their families will benefit from our efforts to build a more inclusive Queensland,' she said.
