A Darling Downs student has taken out top honours in a national photography competition that focuses the lens on water conservation.

Charleville State High School's Suzanne Mackie was named equal first placegetter in the secondary schools category of the 2009 savewater! photographic awards for her evocative image, 'Will the drought ever end?'.

The awards are regarded as Australia's largest water conservation photo competition and are an avenue for students and the public to express their thoughts and awareness of water conservation.

Winning primary and secondary schools received $1000 cash, with individual winners and finalists receiving digital cameras and mp3 players.
