Pre-apprenticeship program targets school leavers
03 November 2009

A new pre-apprenticeship program to train prospective apprentices for employment will start next year.
A new program will prepare young people for apprenticeships and help to counter future skills shortages in key industries.
Skills Queensland Associate Director-General Rod Camm said the pre-apprenticeship program, which starts early next year, would train prospective apprentices for employment.
'If we don't act now skills shortages may slow down our economic recovery,' Mr Camm said.
'The program will work to help ease the effects of the economic slowdown on apprenticeship commencements in key industries by skilling young people now for the future.
'Participants in the program will get an introduction to a trade as well as gain skills to work in an environmentally friendly way to improve their employment prospects.
'Selected registered training organisations will deliver the program from early 2010.'
School leavers can register their interest by visiting the apprenticeships info website
or by calling 1800 210 210.
