A choir from Brisbane's Grovely State School performed a specially-composed song to open the World Vision Kids Hope AUS Conference in Melbourne earlier this month.

The 24 students aged from six to 12 were invited to perform the song after the school's involvement in the World Vision Kids Hope AUS mentoring program which helps at-risk Australian children and their families. The song was written by a past student.

The children performed alongside the Choir of Hope and Inspiration, a group of about 60 homeless and disadvantaged people from Melbourne, previously known as the Choir of Hard Knocks and the subject of an ABC Television series last year.

Principal Vicki Baker, who met World Vision CEO Tim Costello, said the trip was a phenomenal experience for the students.

'More than half the students had not been on a plane before,' Ms Baker said.

'We were also able to fit in a wonderful trip to the Melbourne Zoo where we were given a special tour.'
