Teaching graduates invited back to Mount Gravatt
06 October 2009

Inaugural dean of students at the Mount Gravatt College of Advanced Education, Betty Smith, and inaugural vice principal of the Mount Gravatt Teachers College, Dick Walker, chat with current education students Bianca Vogt and Ashley Beecham.
Griffith University's Mount Gravatt campus will celebrate 40 years of teacher education on October 12 and past teaching graduates are invited back as part of the festivities.
Visitors can enjoy a photographic and memorabilia exhibition and a short film about the history of teaching education at Mount Gravatt.
There will also be an opportunity to reconnect with old friends, colleagues and past lecturers.
The campus opened as the Mount Gravatt Teachers' College in 1969 before becoming the Mount Gravatt College of Advanced Education in 1975.
In 1982 it became the Mount Gravatt campus of Brisbane College of Advanced Education before the Mount Gravatt campus of Griffith University in 1990, which it remains today.
Mount Gravatt Teachers' College was established by the Queensland Education Department to prepare teachers for service across the state.
It originally provided certificate and diploma courses for many types of teachers - primary teachers, secondary teachers, special education teachers, early childhood teachers, music teachers and manual-arts teachers.
Since it opened 40 years ago, the campus has produced more than 32,000 teaching graduates.
