Nursing program for senior school students

27 October 2009

Years 11 and 12 students keen to pursue a career in nursing or midwifery can boost their ranking by enrolling in a University of Queensland (UQ) enrichment program.

UQ has developed the study program in collaboration with the Department of Education and Training as part of the Healthy Futures initiative.

UQ's School of Nursing and Midwifery clinical lecturer Gillian Lewis said successfully completing the program would give students priority entry into undergraduate nursing and midwifery programs at UQ and a bonus rank score.

'The Healthy Futures initiative is an excellent chance for students to experience the world of nursing and midwifery while they finish their high school certificates,' Ms Lewis said.

The week-long program covers learning objectives taken from the first semester of the nursing and midwifery bachelor degrees and is a combination of practical and theoretical-based learning and assessment.

Students are awarded a certificate after they complete the program.
