21 October 2009
The countdown is on in the Showcase Awards for Excellence in Schools 2009 with Queensland's best state school programs to be announced at a gala dinner on October 29.
This year 24 state school finalists are contesting eight awards, each worth $20,000 in development grants.
The eight categories cover the phases of learning, academic excellence, inclusive or innovative practices, leadership and partnerships with industry or the community.
The Showcase Gala Dinner is at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre and tickets are $90 a person which includes a three-course meal and coffee.
Entertainment will be supplied by some of the student stars from this year's Creative Generation - State Schools Onstage.
Showcase project manager Jana Muzik encouraged anyone with an interest in Queensland schooling to attend the special event.
'The Showcase Gala Dinner is one of the highlights of the Queensland education calendar,' Ms Muzik said.
'The finalists are Queensland's best state school programs and are significantly improving student learning outcomes through excellent teaching practice.
'The chance to showcase such outstanding educational programs alongside some of our most creative young performers will make it a night to remember.'
