Free film fest tours Queensland

15 September 2009

Some of the state's favourite flicks will be shown on a big screen under the stars when the Q150 Film Festival goes on tour later this month.

The Q150 Film Festival, part of Queensland's 150th birthday celebrations, will be presented by Warner Bros. Movie World.

It will tour to Bowen, Normanton, Weipa, Biloela, Roma, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba, Gold Coast and Brisbane between September 25 and December 5.

Seven short or feature films will be shown on Friday and Saturday nights in each location and during the day there will be filmmaking workshops for school students and community members.

Feature films include the animation hit Happy Feet, directed by Queensland born George Miller, 48 Shades, based on the novel by Queensland author Nick Earls, Nim's Island, filmed on the Gold Coast and Hinchinbrook Island, and All Men are Liars. Short Films include Aunty Maggie and Womba Wakgun by Indigenous actor Leah Purcell and Bloody Footy.

Each Friday afternoon a two-hour session for school students will see one school from each of the nine locations produce a two-and-a-half-minute film on the past or the future 150 years in their community. The films will be screened during Saturday night's festival program.

Each Saturday morning members of the community who are interested in postproduction have the opportunity to get involved in live editing where special effects such as chroma keying will be demonstrated.
