Step out for Walk Safely to School Day
14 April 2010

Students, teachers, carers and parents are encouraged to step out for the annual national Walk Safely to School Day on May 7.
An initiative of the Pedestrian Council of Australia, Walk Safely to School Day is held each year to encourage primary school students and their carers to walk to school in a bid to promote childhood fitness and reduce traffic congestion.
Last year Education Minister Geoff Wilson joined more than 123 schools and thousands of young students across Queensland for their morning walk to school in the autumn sunshine.
Schools receive publicity for their involvement, spreading the message about the importance of physical activity, using public transport and road safety.
Schools can build on their day with their own activities such as walking programs or hosting a healthy breakfast.
