New series of anti-bullying seminars
1 March 2011
Working together ... Dr Michael Carr-Gregg.
Queensland's anti-bullying expert and respected child and adolescent psychologist Dr Michael Carr-Gregg has begun a second series of free seminars for parents, school leaders and school staff across the state.
The 2011 Working Together Against Bullying seminars between February and September will build on last year's series with a focus on promoting self-esteem and resilience in students and practical strategies for dealing with bullying.
Parents can learn about the different types of bullying, how to support their children if they are being bullied and how to work with teachers and schools if an issue arises.
School leaders and staff will be able to discuss how to take effective action against bullying at their schools.
There will be 33 seminars in 11 locations across the state with workshops for school leaders, school staff and parents in each location.
The Working Together Against Bullying seminar series is part of the Queensland Government's ongoing work to implement the recommendations of the Queensland Schools Alliance Against Violence which brought together representatives from the education sectors, parent and youth advocacy groups.
As part of the Working Together Against Bullying initiatives, schools and parents can access a range of resources including vodcasts of the first education seminars and other webisodes presented by Dr Carr-Gregg last year.
More information on the Working Together resources and seminar dates and locations is available at the Department of Education and Training Student Services website.
