28 new kindergarten services announced

The Queensland Government has announced locations for 28 new kindergarten services to be co-located at state schools.

Education Minister Cameron Dick said the expansion of kindergarten services would ensure more Queensland children get a flying start to the first years of their learning life.

'The Queensland Government will establish a total of 108 extra kindergarten services by the end of 2012 on state and non-state school sites as part of the Government's $321 million investment in establishing up to 240 kindergarten services across the state by 2014,' Mr Dick said.

'National and international research has found experiences in the early years of life have long-term impacts on health, learning and behaviour. A quality early childhood education and care program, such as kindergarten, creates the stimulating and nurturing environment children need to thrive.'

He said having services co-located with schools helped children with their transition to Prep because they were already familiar with the school environment, and was convenient for parents with school-age children.

Information sessions for interested stakeholders will begin shortly in major cities across the state. Visit the Department of Education and Training website for details as they become available.
