QCT board election to be held in 2011

16 February 2011

QCT board election to be held in 2011

Teachers with a strong interest in the standards of their profession and how it is governed are encouraged to nominate for positions on the Queensland College of Teachers Board.

With the current board's term concluding at the end of 2011, three practising teachers must be elected this year for the new three-year term of appointment starting in January 2012.

Of the three elected practising teachers, two must be from the state school sector and one from the non-state sector.

Nominations for the three positions open on February 18 and close at 4pm on March 11. Nomination forms will be available on the QCT website and the Australian Electoral Commission website from February 18. The electoral commission is assisting the QCT with the conduct of the election.

While all Queensland registered teachers are eligible to vote in the election, only practising teachers - registered teachers on the educational staff of Queensland state or non-state schools - may stand as candidates.

QCT board members work to ensure the organisation's strategic direction is consistent with its legislative requirements to uphold the standards of the teaching profession, maintain public confidence in the teaching profession, and protect the public by ensuring education in schools is provided in a professional and competent way by approved teachers.

Interested practising teachers should see the role description on the QCT website before completing a nomination form. For more information contact the QCT on 3377 4777 or email enquiries@qct.edu.au.
