Campaign promotes heart health for women
23 June 2011
Employees of the Department of Education and Training are being encouraged to get behind the Heart Foundation's Go Red for Women campaign.
As a major employer of women in the Queensland workforce, the department is backing the foundation's Go Red and Healthy Heart Challenge initiatives to combat the No.1 killer of Australian women.
Statistics show women are four times more likely to die of heart disease than breast cancer.
Go Red for Women is the Heart Foundation's campaign uniting women in the fight against heart disease - helping to raise awareness of their risk and promoting healthier choices.
This year's campaign encourages women to take action by signing up for the Healthy Heart Challenge and committing to making a change that will improve heart health and help them live a longer life.
Registration for the Healthy Heart Challenge is open until June 29, and men can also sign up.
The challenge involves choosing one of six goals. Weekly enewsletters featuring tips, recipes and information will then help participants stay motivated, along with access to online tools and resources and personal support and information via a Heart Foundation phone helpline.
