Centenary celebrates contribution of women

The centenary celebration of International Women's Day on March 8 will provide another opportunity for schools, TAFEs and other Department of Education and Training work sites to celebrate women's contribution to education and training.

This year the State Government has launched an online tribute site, Everyday Women, Extraordinary Lives, recognising Queensland women and girls aged 12 and over. All are being encouraged to nominate someone they know who has made a difference.

In Brisbane, the department's Diversity Unit will host a lunchtime panel discussion about women's experience from the 1950s to today.

Seven departmental women who each represent a decade of social experience will share their personal accounts on a range of topics at 111 George Street on March 8 from 12.30-1.30pm.

To attend email diversity.team@deta.qld.gov.au or telephone 3237 0415. Further information is available from the Diversity website.

A list of events across Queensland, and resources promoting and celebrating the day, are available on the International Women's Day website.
