2011 Peter Doherty Science Awards open

Nominations for the Peter Doherty Awards for Excellence in Science and Science Education 2011 are now open.
A total of 29 awards in five categories to the value of $109 000 are available this year.
Last year's winners had the rare honour of meeting the awards' namesake when Nobel laureate, former Australian of the Year and Indooroopilly State High School old boy Peter Doherty attended the presentation in Brisbane for the first time in the program's seven-year history.
The categories fro the 2011 awards are:
- Outstanding Senior Science Student Awards (10 awards of $2000 each)
- Outstanding Teachers of Science Awards (10 awards of $5000 each)
- Science Support Officer Awards (three awards of $5000 each)
- Science Education Partnership and Community Science Awards (Partners/Volunteers/Mentors) (three awards of $3000 each)
- Professional Science Leadership Awards (three awards of $5000 each).
