Bid O'Sullivan scholarships awarded
2 March 2011
Eleven aspiring teachers from rural and remote parts of Queensland have been presented with their Bid O'Sullivan Teaching Scholarships at Parliament House.
The scholarships, aimed at increasing the number of teachers in isolated areas, are valued at $20,000 each.
The recipients will shortly begin undergraduate teaching studies at university. They are provided with support during their studies and the opportunity to gain experience and consolidate their skills teaching in a supportive rural or remote location after graduation.
The scholarships program is named after Bid O'Sullivan, Queensland's first School of the Air teacher. It has been running annually since 1999.
For more information on the scholarships, and a list of the 2011 recipients, visit the Bid O'Sullivan Teaching Scholarships webpage.
Presentation of the Pearl Duncan Teaching Scholarships for Indigenous students was delayed due to the passing of a member of the community.
