Special ed pioneer among award recipients

Above and beyond ... Chesleigh Hargreaves chats with Department of Education, Training and Employment Assistant Director-General Craig Allen.
A pioneer of educational programs for students with severe intellectual impairment and multiple impairments is among 16 recipients of 2012 Department of Education, Training and Employment Staff Excellence Awards.
Chesleigh Hargreaves, currently president of the Association of Special Education Administrators in Queensland, assisted the transition of students from institutional settings of the 1980s to mainstream primary and secondary schools and special schools today, working at the international cutting edge of the field.
Mr Hargreaves and his 15 fellow Staff Excellence Awards recipients were acknowledged for service above and beyond the normal requirements of their position whose outstanding results are considered to have had a significant impact on the lives of students, other community members and/or their work colleagues.
The annual awards are open to officers from all classification levels and this year attracted 70 nominations from across the portfolios of education, training and early childhood. The awards were implemented prior to Employment joining the department's portfolio.
