QTA state finalists announced

Five students from state schools and two from Catholic colleges will contest the School-based Apprentice or Trainee of the Year category of the 52nd Queensland Training Awards.

In addition, Kirwan State High School head of department Liz Hennig will join teachers or trainers from five TAFEs and one registered training organisation in competing for the title of Vocational Education and Training Teacher/Trainer of the Year.

In all, 58 state finalists will compete for Queensland's highest recognition for vocational education and training in 11 categories at the awards to be held in Brisbane on 13 September.

Winners of the 11 state awards will progress to the Australian Training Awards held in Perth on Friday 22 November.

The categories contested in the QTA are: Harry Hauenschild Apprentice of the Year, Bob Marshman Trainee of the Year, School-based Apprentice or Trainee of the Year, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year, Vocational Student of the Year, Vocational Education and Training Teacher or Trainer of the Year, Small Employer of the Year, Employer of the Year, Small Training Provider of the Year, Large Training Provider of the Year and The Premier's Industry Collaboration Award.
