When did it open?

The school opened in 1932.

How did it get its name?

From the suburb in which it is located. We're not quite sure where the name Happy Valley came from but it certainly is a happy place to work.

How many staff?

We have a principal, one deputy, one curriculum coordinator, one learning support teacher, one special needs teacher and 14 classroom teachers.

How long have you been the principal at the school?

Eight years.

Best thing about your school?

The friendly school community.

Claim to fame?

The school was the original Isa Mines School before it was relocated to its current location.

Anything you'd like to add?

Happy Valley State School is well known in the Mount Isa area for its Social Skills program. The program teaches children life skills in a fun context.
