SMART CLASSROOMS - Signed, sealed, delivered

June 2009

Life got a little bit easier for school-based staff and students with the Department of Education and Training's long awaited Simplified Sign-On capability.

Part of the Identity and Access Management (IdM) project, the new technology lets users have one password and login to access multiple applications.

Simplified Sign-On lets the system capture passwords, which are reset by MOE and synchronise them with passwords in MIS.

School-based staff still need to make regular password changes in MOE and these will be automatically updated in other areas of the network.

Signified Sign-On is capable of aligning and synchronising the passwords required to access the ICT network, email and the Internet

However these changes are only the beginning for IdM.

Over the next few months, the project team will work to increase the capability of Simplified Sign-On while maintaining a secure ICT Network.
