SMART CLASSROOMS: OnePortal the solution for Emu Park
14 April 2010
Student absences, school activities, maintenance schedules and equipment bookings...
No matter what the issue, Emu Park State School principal Wayne McMurtrie believes the answer lies with the department's new intranet, OnePortal.
Mr McMurtrie said OnePortal had helped him manage his Central Coast school effectively.
'It really is a fantastic piece of software, particularly the team sites,' Mr McMurtrie said.
'We use it for just about everything in our school.
'There's the school calendar, duty roster, room and equipment booking schedules and a general notice or recognition board.
'The school groundsman is even online.
'Teachers can now send a request for a repair to be made via the school team site.
'There's no longer a need to go and find him.'
OnePortal transforms the way departmental staff interact with information, giving them better access to advice, policies, forms and more.
It also allows users to collaborate with colleagues from other schools and work units on discussion boards, wikis and online chats - retaining commonly used links such as websites and team sites.
'My staff really love how simple it is to use - and the best thing is that it's free,' Mr McMurtrie said.
'People who have yet to explore OnePortal really are missing out.'
