Schools move towards greater curriculum consistency

The Queensland Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting (QCAR) framework was introduced this year, delivering greater consistency and comparability in the curriculum and making it easier for students to move between schools.

The framework requires all schools to offer the same core curriculum, Essential Learnings, from Year 1 to 9.

It identifies the essential learnings in all eight key learning areas, and specifies the knowledge, skills and processes that students need as a solid foundation for further learning.

The framework also requires teachers in every school to use the same reference points to judge student achievement. This means an 'A' standard in Coolangatta has the same characteristics as an 'A' in Cloncurry, regardless of whether a student attends a state, Catholic or independent school.

This high level of consistency is also reflected in the new report cards that are provided to parents twice each year using a five point scale (A to E), making it even easier for families and students who relocate or move schools anywhere in Queensland.

For more information visit the QCAR Framework website.
