The Essential Learnings highlight "ways of working" with knowledge that parallels the social and cognitive expectations of specific KLAs (which may be interpreted through Rich Tasks or Blueprints) together with an inquiry-based approach to learning.
Learners and their differing abilities and needs are central to how planning and teaching should occur, and the QCAR Essential Learnings will maintain and support this position.
The Essential Learnings define what knowledge is to be taught and learned in a way which reflects important priorities and understandings about how knowledge works.
The Standards describe the product of student learning in ways that support judgments about its quality. Judgements about student achievement are based on a collection of evidence gathered over time.
Student learning highlights their use of the essential processes of the Ways of working to develop and demonstrate their Knowledge and understanding.
The curriculum must focus on the most powerful ideas, concepts and thinking processes so that students can make sense of their experiences.
It must also engage students in the processes of constructing understandings, solving problems and expressing their conclusions.
How students effectively construct, represent and transform knowledge, and how they develop competence in and beyond the learning areas are key to designing curriculum

Regardless of which school they attend, all young Queenslanders need essential knowledge, skills and attributes to enjoy life and contribute to society. The Queensland Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Framework (QCAR) will provide the chance for all students to acquire the essential skills for life, now and in the future.
