The Essential Learnings are the core of the curriculum and while they will direct teachers on what to teach they need not represent the total curriculum.
How much of the intended curriculum they represent will depend on the capabilities of the students. Complementing these essentials may be a variety of opportunities to investigate issues/learnings pertinent to the contextual needs and interests of the students in various school communities.
It is the decision of the school / teacher how these essentials and other learnings are "packaged". We strongly support an integrated approach where there is deep and connected learning but also know that, at times, some essentials will require explicit scaffolded teaching.
