How do I manage risks?

We cannot avoid or prevent all risks. But we can manage them.

To manage risks, take a broad look at your business unit, region or school and ask:

What can go wrong?
How can it go wrong?
What will it cost if it goes wrong? (people, financial, time and resource costs)
Where are the decisions which affect risks being made?

With this awareness, you can find ways to build practices into existing processes to manage risks efficiently.

The steps in this process help you to manage risk effectively. Familiarise yourself with the purposes of the steps, and the actions that arise from the steps.

Note: In many cases actions should only be undertaken by the appropriate level of management. However, these steps will aid your decision-making and help you and your colleagues manage risks in your area:
